Mt Aconcagua Expedition
South America's highest mountain and one of the 7 summits,
We work very closely with our old friends at Aventuras Patagonicas (AP) in our attempt on Aconcagua. We will approach our route via the Guanaco Valley and then descending the normal route, essentially traversing the entire mountain. This route is the most recently discovered, non-technical route, established by our friends at AP in February of 1997. This is a much less traveled side of Aconcagua with gradual elevation gain between camps allowing for easier acclimatization than other route. During the initial exploration of this valley, the fellows from AP encountered large herds of wild guanaco (related to the alpaca and the llama) a rare sight in the Aconcagua region, and hence the route got its name. This route offers very few trails, few people, and a true sense of adventure. It is the last untouched route on Aconcagua and we are proud to share this route with you! Our expedition begins and ends in the City of Mendoza, Argentina. The city of Mendoza is a charming town with a wonderful mix of old and new with regards to the appearance, the culture and the cuisine. A wonderful South American treat. *Note-You will notice that we are offering this expedition at a price lower than most guide companies. The reason for this is the format we will use when approaching Aconcagua. Our Western guide will be taking on a 'leader' role as opposed to the 'guide' role typically used on our trips. We will expect every member on our team to 'pull his/her weight' throughout the expedition. This will require every member to assist with meal cooking, camp set up and most expedition duties. This will lower your costs but require more work from you as an expedition member. Contact us for more info on whether this is the approach for you.
